The healthy growth of aquatic seedlings is inseparable from scientific feed selection and feeding technology, which is not only related to the growth rate and health of seedlings, but also has an important impact on the breeding benefits.

In terms of feed selection, many factors need to be considered. First of all, feed should be selected according to the basic feeding habits of the breeding objects. Different aquatic seedlings have very different feeding habits. For example, silver carp and bighead carp, which use filter feeding methods, are suitable for powdered feed; soft pellet feed is more suitable for hunting perch, rainbow trout, etc.; hard pellet feed or puffed feed is a good choice for carp and crucian carp, which use swallowing methods; eels, turtles, etc., which use biting methods, need dough feed. Secondly, the nutritional content of the feed must be comprehensive and balanced. In addition to meeting the needs of protein, fat and energy, the content of essential amino acids, essential fatty acids, trace elements and vitamins should also be considered. At the same time, attention should be paid to the quality of the feed. Good feed usually has a brighter luster, consistent color, normal fishy smell, and a certain stability in water to prevent the dissolution of nutrients.

Feeding technology is also critical.  'Four determinations' are timing, positioning, quality determination, and quantity determination. Timing feeding helps seedlings form good feeding habits; positioning feeding can build a feeding platform in the leeward and sunny part of the pond to facilitate concentrated feeding of seedlings and observe feeding conditions; quality determination requires that the quality of the feed fed is stable and meets the needs of seedlings; quantity determination requires that the daily feeding amount be reasonably determined based on factors such as the growth stage, weight and water temperature of the seedlings. 'Three observations' refer to the feeding situation of fish, the weather, and the water quality, and the feeding amount and feeding time are flexibly adjusted according to these actual conditions.

For different types of aquatic seedlings, the feeding method is also different. Shrimp intestines are straight and short, and feeding is not rhythmic. They should be fed in small amounts and multiple times. The feeding amount during the day accounts for 20% - 40% of the whole day, and at night it accounts for 60% - 80%. The feed is evenly spread on the shallow hard bottom of the pond. The feeding habits of crabs are similar to those of shrimps, and the feeding techniques are also similar. Turtles are not as agile as fish and rely on their sense of smell to find food. The feeding table should be built on the quiet side of the pond or not far from the pond bank, and the feeding method of 'first coarse and then fine' should be adopted.

In short, scientific feed selection and feeding technology are the guarantee for the healthy growth of aquatic seedlings. Farmers need to constantly summarize experience according to actual conditions to improve breeding efficiency.
